veryone should give much thought about having their photo taken for their passport. True, not everyone’s going to see it. But your photo will be on your passport for years. Years. It is therefore important to prepare for it like models would do a photoshoot.

Imagine having your photo taken without really thinking about how you would look like. You think it was fine. What could happen? Eh. Wrong. Your face can become washed out, a lock of hair went out of place, etc. Passport photos are notorious for resembling a drunken you, a hung-over one, or a mugshot.

Here are a few tricks to help you achieve that natural how-I-should-look-like-always passport photo:

Know the guidelines

Obviously, everyone should. If not, your passport will get rejected in a snap of a finger. Your posture should be straight, your face upfront with your chin up. Not too much though. Do not flash your white pearls. You should have a neutral expression. Yes, neither jubilant nor miserable. Either one is no good. Both eyes should be open. Smiling is fine. But your smile should be like Mona Lisa’s as they say. (Good luck trying to look good with that). Eyeglasses, colored contact lenses, earrings, and hair accessories should be removed. Scrunchies, headband, and other hair accessories will not be accepted.

The hair should not cover the eyes and ears. They should be visible. For those with long hair, you can pull your hair down and style according to your real hair type: straight, wavy, curly. You can pull your hair back. But no hair accessory holding it should be visible.

Some girls can go without it and some can’t. Go easy on the makeup and don’t go overboard. You can do your brows, powder your face, put a little blush, and add the slightest hint of color to your lips. Natural makeup or the no-makeup makeup look is the best fit. In addition, try to avoid sunscreen if you do not like wearing makeup or prefer using it under. Sunscreens reflect the camera flash and can make you look whiter than you truly are.

Dress code

You need not wear a dress. A business outfit or any shirt with a collar is the best option to for when looking for something to wear during photo capture. Sleeveless tops or V-necks will make you look like you’re not wearing anything and can get your passport rejected. Dress wisely. Do not wear color white as well. It will blend in with your background and make your photo look like it’s been pasted there or edited in some way.

A passport is one of the most important documents one can have. It is a holder’s responsibility to keep it safe and free from any markings. To help secure your passport in case any unwanted problems arise, it is best to have it scanned. Document imaging has gone popular nowadays as people and offices go for the paperless approach.
